ITINERARY

Day 1: Yangon | Welcome to Myanmar!

International Flight: Excluded

Welcome to Myanmar!

Upon arrival, our guide will greet you at the airport and escort you to Belmond Governor’s Residence for check in. You’ll receive a short tour briefing in the lobby and then are at your leisure for the evening.

Day 2: Yangon | Discover Highlights of Yangon

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, visit the downtown area to see the Old City Hall and Maharbandoola Park. Then take a stroll along the old street ending at the old Strand Hotel. Next, drive to Botahtaung Pagoda which features golden decorations inside the pagoda. Continue to Bogyoke Market which sells many Burmese traditional handicrafts including stone carving, wood carving, bronze carving, painting, etc.

In the afternoon, visit Kandawgyi Park for a stroll near Chaukhtetgyi Reclining Buddha Image – one of the largest in Yangon. Continue to the highlight of Yangon: the golden Shwedagon Pagoda, which has been described as one of the wonders of the world. Shwedagon plays a very important role in the Old Burmese History and also is an important Buddhist icon. Enjoy the sunset over the pagoda.

Day 3: Yangon-Bagan | Fly to Bagan | Valley of a Thousand Temples

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Rise early in the morning, and fly to Bagan which is one of the most famous places of Myanmar. Then you’ll check in Aureum Palace Bagan Resort at their Jasmine Villa Lake View with living area, private terrace viewing the lake and the ancient Bagan Temples, and upgraded amenities.

Today you’ll explore Bagan, so as to see its thousands of Buddhist pagodas spread in the valley. These pagodas used to own by individual families during prosperous times. You will visit the Nyaung Oo Market where locals buy and sell produce. Then you’ll visit the Shwezigon Pagoda which is the largest pagoda in Bagan painted with real gold.

Have a rest in the hotel during the hot afternoon. Then enjoy a Horse Cart Ride first to the small village of Taung Phi where rests a worn teak monastery awaiting the rare tourists who are lost. You’ll continue by horse cart around temples and winding roads as the sun makes it’s way to the sky’s edge casting curious shadows from the temples across the plain.

Continue to Shesandaw Pagoda. From your vantage point, you’ll watch one of the best sunsets in Southeast Asia. Then you’ll take a horse cart ride back to your hotel.

Day 4: Bagan | Hot Air Balloon Over Bagan | Mount Popa Excursion

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Experience the unrivaled majesty of thousands of ancient temples drifting below you in style, comfort, and safety. You’ll rise early in the morning to beat dawn for a spectacular sunrise over the unique Bagan scene aloft in your hot air balloon. The captain will explain the safety procedures, and you can some coffee or tea before departure. Then the balloon will take off and you’ll be treated to an amazing view of the temples across Bagan. It is also great to see the other balloons in flight. After an hour ride, you’ll have a smooth landing.

Later in the morning, continue to Mount Popa. Mount Popa is an extinct volcano standing 1518 meters high. Mount Popa has played an important role in Myanmar culture, religion, and history since before recorded history. Its shrine is dedicated to the worship of the 37 Nats, the Burmese ancient animist spirits. Learn about nats and nat worship as you climb the stairs to the top. The view over the Myingyan Plain from the top of the volcanic peak is impressive. Transfer back to Bagan late afternoon.

Day 5: Bagan-Mandalay | Fly to Mandalay | Mandalay Highlights

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Check out and fly to Mandalay in the morning.

Upon arrival in Mandalay, our guide and driver will meet you at the airport and escort you to Rupar Mandala Resort for check in at their Premier Suite with timber furniture, private balcony, and upgraded amenities.

In the afternoon, you’ll go to see the highlights of Mandalay. Start off with an opportunity to learn about the distinct Buddhist culture unique to Burma. You’ll visit the Mahamuni Image where you’ll have an opportunity to watch locals pray and place the gold paper on the statue of Buddha for a blessing. You’ll also visit a gold paper factory to see how golden leafs are made, a staple in Burmese religious practices. Then you’ll visit the 19th century Shwenandaw Monastery (Golden Palace Monastery) famous for its teak carvings of Buddhist mythology. Next, you’ll see the Kuthodaw Pagoda which is a Buddhist stupa that contains the world’s largest book of Buddhism. At the end of your day, you’ll enjoy a gorgeous sunset from the top of Mandalay Hill.

Day 6: Mandalay – Heho – Kalaw | Fly to Heho | Trekking in Kalaw

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Check out in the morning and fly to Heho.

Upon arrival, our guide will greet you at the airport and then transfer to Kalaw.  Stop at Aung Ban and a local market en route which sells Burmese cuisine, wines, and traditional handicrafts.  You can try the Shan Noodles at one of the Burmese traditional teashops. Then continue to Kalaw, a former British Hill Station. The town still carries a colonial atmosphere.

Check in at Amara Mountain Resort.

After a short rest, transfer to the beginning point for your trek. Visit tribal villages along the way and stop at a home to meet a local family. Continue trekking to the second meeting point where our vehicle awaits.

Return to the hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure.

Day 7: Kalaw – Inle Lake | Scenic Views of the Shan Highlands

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, transfer to Pindaya, a small peaceful town situated at the base of the Shan Highlands. Enjoy the natural landscape views en route. On the way, visit a parasol workhouse to see how Burmese paper umbrellas are made by hand. Then continue to the Pindaya Limestone Natural Caves which house more than 8,000 Buddha Images.

In the afternoon, drive to Nyaung Shwe another Shan town bordering Inle Lake. On the way, visit the Shwe Yan Pyay monastery built mainly of teak wood in 1882. Proceed to Nyaung Shwe where you will continue by long tail boat to Aureum Palace Inle Resort.

Day 8: Inle Lake | Full-day Exploration on Inle Lake

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Your excursion today will be made by private longtail boat to see the In-tha tribe, to discover their unique floating farms and life on the water. You will also witness local fishermen who fish while using only one leg to paddle the boat. Then you’ll visit the Long Neck Ladies who were relocated from the Myanmar and Thailand border.

Rest of the day is at your leisure to relax.

Day 9: Inle Lake – Heho – Thandwe |Fly to Thandwe, Relax on Ngapali Beach

Meals: Breakfast

Today, you will transfer by flight to Thandwe.

Upon arrival, our driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to Ngapali Beach for check in at Aureum Palace Resort Ngapali.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure.

Day 10-11: Thandwe | Relax on Ngapali Beach

Day 12: Thandwe – Sittwe – Mrauk U | Fly to Sittwe | Speed Boat to Mrauk U

Meals: Breakfast

Fly to Sittwe in the morning. Our guide will greet you at the airport and then you’ll transfer by speedboat to Mrauk U Princess Resort in Mrauk U for check in. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 13: Mrauk U | The Abandoned Ruins of Mrauk U

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today, you’ll visit Shite Thaung, a cave temple built in 1553(quite a contrast from Bagan architecture). Featuring spiral shaped tunnels decorated with stone carved reliefs of daily life & mystical animals, this ancient complex will give you some insight into the history of Myanmar’s ancient spiritual development. Then you’ll visit Andaw Thein Cave Temple with fine stone carvings. Legend says this houses the relic molar of Buddha.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit the massive fortress-like Temple of Htuk Kan Thein from the Mrauk-U period. You’ll return to your hotel for the evening.

Day 14: Mrauk U | Trekking to Tattooed Chin Tribes

Meals: Breakfast

Drive to the jetty, and take a boat up the Lay Mro River and land at Mesaligon Village. You’ll then walk through the fruit gardens with Mangoes, Lychees, Lemons, Citrus, and Pomelos. Continuing on the river, occasionally, you’ll spot vegetable farms along the river bank, Chilies, tomatoes, Peas, Beans, Maize, and Eggplant. The boat will wait at Sun-Bun-Kaing village. Some of the villages along the way are tattooed Chin villages, which you’ll be able to spot easily by noting the intricate tattoos on the faces of women.

Afterward, the boat will continue up to Pan-Baung village. From the village, you’ll trek to Khon Chaung village. After a stop there, we’ll walk up and down hills and ravines, following a foot path under shady trees in the forest. The wilderness is quiet, peaceful, and pleasant. Then you’ll trek back to the boat and return to the hotel for the evening.

Day 15: Mrauk U – Sittwe – Yangon  | Return to Sittwe, Fly to Yangon and departure.

Meals: Breakfast

Early in the morning, your tour guide will transfer you to the jetty where you’ll transfer by private boat to Sittwe. Upon arrival, your guide will bring you to the airport and bid you a fond farewell. Transfer by flight to Yangon to catch your international flight.
